What is a call-out notice relating to a reservist?

A call-out notice is the legal document by which a reservist and his or her employer are notified of the Ministry of Defence's intention to mobilise the reservist for a period of full-time military service. Separate copies of the call-out notice are sent to the employer and the reservist by the Ministry of Defence.

The call-out notice is contained in the employer's call-out pack, which includes a letter setting out the date that the employee is required to report for duty at the mobilisation centre and the expected length of his or her service. It also includes details of the employer's and employee's statutory rights and obligations in relation to the mobilisation; guidance for the employer on financial assistance for costs arising from the employee's absence; and guidance on applying for deferral, revocation or exemption in relation to the mobilisation.
