What is included under the definition of personal protective equipment?

The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (SI 1992/2966) require employers to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to employees who are exposed to a health and safety risk that cannot be adequately controlled in other ways.

PPE includes protective clothing such as aprons, clothing for adverse weather conditions, gloves, safety footwear, safety helmets and high visibility waistcoats, and protective equipment such as eye protectors, life-jackets, respirators, underwater breathing apparatus and safety harnesses, when they are worn for the protection of health and safety.
