What is the effect on statutory adoption leave and pay if the adoption is disrupted?

It is not uncommon for an adoption to be disrupted and the child to be returned to the adoption agency. If the adoption is disrupted in this way, or if the child dies, the adoption leave and pay period terminates eight weeks after the end of the week in which the child dies or is returned to the adoption agency (or, in the case of adoption from overseas, ceases to live with the adopter). A week for these purposes is a period of seven days beginning with a Sunday.
