What qualifying service is necessary for statutory adoption leave?

The requirement to have a minimum period of qualifying service for statutory adoption leave is removed with effect from 5 April 2015. Like statutory maternity leave, statutory adoption leave is now a "day one right".

Prior to 5 April 2015, for UK adoptions, employees were required to have been continuously employed for a minimum of 26 weeks ending with the week in which they were notified of having been matched with the child for adoption. For overseas adoptions, the service requirement was 26 weeks ending with the week in which the employee received official notification of approval for adoption or, where the employee had changed employer since the official notification was received, since his or her employment with the new employer began.
