When must an employer offer free health assessments?

Regulation 7 of the Working Time Regulations 1998 (SI 1998/1833) requires employers to offer a free health assessment to any worker who is to become a night worker. Employers must also give night workers the opportunity to have further assessments at regular intervals.

A health assessment can take the form of a questionnaire. The Health and Safety Executive advises that employers should seek specialist advice from a suitably qualified healthcare professional, when devising and assessing the results of health assessments.
