Who is eligible for the national minimum wage?

Under the National Minimum Wage Act 1998 and National Minimum Wage Regulations 2015 (SI 2015/621), most workers over the age of 16 are eligible. Exclusions from the rights include au pairs (who live in the family home and share family tasks and leisure activities), family members in a business and voluntary workers. The term "workers" does, however, include independent contractors and other people who would not normally be treated as employees.
