Who should be present at a disciplinary interview?

Typically, the employee's line manager will conduct the interview in the presence of someone from the HR function, whose role it is to offer advice or guidance on the process and to take notes. The employee being interviewed has the right to request to be accompanied by a fellow worker or trade union official. It is not generally advisable for a formal disciplinary interview to be conducted on a one-to-one basis, in case of a later dispute about what was, or was not, said.
