Acceptance of an offer must be a positive act. Doing nothing does not amount to acceptance. The applicant can use any means of accepting an offer, unless the employer specifies one method. It is sensible to put a time limit on an employment offer so that, if the prospective employee has not accepted it within the time frame, the offer automatically expires.
