Salary survey tools and reports

Instructions on how to use XpertHR offline salary survey spreadsheet tools and reports.

Reports

All salary survey subscriptions include access to a number of reports in PDF formats. These are available from the survey home page, and can be printed or downloaded for use when away from your desk.

The composition of reports varies from survey to survey, but typically you will find the following set of reports:

  • Overview - This includes a list of participants, a breakdown of the sample composition, and job level and job function definitions;
  • Pay trends - This includes analysis and tables showing movements in pay over the past 12 months and longer term, pay review data, labour turnover figures and an economic commentary to place the findings in context;
  • Additional payments - This is where you will find data on bonus and commission payments, shift allowances and car allowances;
  • Salary tables - This includes salary tables based on the most common criteria, showing for example salaries at all job levels for a given job function in a particular region. For some large surveys we produce separate reports based on national pay data and regional pay data.

This area of the survey home page may also include links to download additional specialist reports and other useful reference aids, such as the job titles wizard and participation instructions.

Salary tables

XpertHR Salary Surveys creates a spreadsheet showing data from all the most commonly used salary tables in Excel format for you to download and use in your own reward systems. The choice of tables in the spreadsheet reflects those found in the PDF report.

Spreadsheet applications

We use your organisation's data and that from the survey as a whole to create a range of easy-to-use spreadsheet applications that enable you to benchmark your employees and see the results in data and chart formats.

Applications that use only aggregated data from the survey as a whole can be downloaded from the survey home page.

Applications that use your organisation's data in potentially identifiable formats are note hosted online but are supplied directly to you in secure formats.

Benchmark a single employee

Using the quick results tab, you can look up any one of your employees whose data you submitted to the survey. The dropdown menu allows you to select them based on the ID number you gave the employee when submitting data or the XpertHR record number.

You then only need to select the reward type (for example, basic pay or basic plus bonus) and the benchmark (for example, median or upper quartile) to see how that individual's pay matches against market rates.

If you then want to see how changes in the individual's salary and market rates would affect their market position, you can select a percentage rate to increase or decrease the figures and see the revised table and chart.

This tab has been designed to print off on a single sheet of A4 paper.

For those with greater expertise in Excel, the full data for your employees and the market can be found in the second tab.

NB This application uses potentially identifiable data. It cannot be found online but will be supplied directly to you in a secure format.

Benchmark a group of employees

Using the quick results tab, you can benchmark salaries for groups of employees in your organisation against market rates for similar employees.

From the dropdown menu, select the job level of the group of employees you want to benchmark, the reward type (for example, basic pay or basic plus bonus) and the benchmark (for example, median or upper quartile) to see how that individual's pay matches against market rates.

If you then want to see how changes in the your organisation's salaries and market rates would affect your employees' market position, you can select a percentage rate to increase or decrease the figures and see the revised table and chart.

This tab has been designed to print off on a single sheet of A4 paper.

For those with greater expertise in Excel, the full data for your employees and the market can be found in the second tab.

NB This application uses potentially identifiable data. It cannot be found online but will be supplied directly to you in a secure format.
