How to deal with job applicants with convictions

  • Respect the right of job applicants to conceal any convictions that are spent, in other words convictions in respect of which the appropriate rehabilitation period has elapsed.
  • Do not ask job applicants questions about spent convictions unless the job for which they are applying is one of the excluded jobs under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
