Before dismissing an employee on grounds of ill-health attributable to working conditions, an employer should take all reasonably practicable steps to respond to advice designed to ameliorate the cause of the problem, holds the EAT in Jagdeo v Smith Industries Ltd (4.9.81) EAT No 298/81.

Mrs Jagdeo had been employed by Smith Industries Ltd as an assembler for 10 years when, in September 1980, she was moved to work which involved soldering.
