A Protestant applicant who was rejected for a civil service post in favour of a less well-qualified Catholic was discriminated against in order to redress an imbalance in the religious composition of staff, according to the Fair Employment Tribunal (Chair: E McBride) in Brown v Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland.
