In R v Secretary of State for Social Security ex parte Equal Opportunities Commission (7 July 1992) EOR45B, the European Court of Justice rules that the UK is not in contravention of EEC Social Security Directive 79/7 by requiring men to pay contributions for 44 years and women for 39 years in order to qualify for the same full basic state retirement pension.
