New Century Cleaning Co Ltd v Church [2000] IRLR 27 CA (0 other reports)

In New Century Cleaning Co Ltd v Church 26.3.99 Court of Appeal, a majority of the Court of Appeal holds that an employer's unilateral and across-the-board 10% reduction in the established prices offered to teams of employees for regular window-cleaning jobs did not amount to an unauthorised deduction from the wages "properly payable" by the employer to the employees. For wages to be "properly payable", the employee must have some legal, but not necessarily contractual, entitlement to them.
