An employer's general announcement that its operations would cease on a particular date two months ahead did not amount to notice of termination of the employment of individual employees, holds the EAT in Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps (UK) Ltd v Taylor 15.3.95 EAT 391/94. Employees had differing lengths of service and so were entitled to different periods of notice and, in any event, circumstances could have changed after the employer's general statement of intention.
