ECJ ruling on fixed-term contracts for older workers

The ECJ has ruled that the German fixed-term contracts legislation contravenes EU law by allowing fixed-term contracts to be concluded without objective reason for any worker of 52 and above.

On 26 June 2003, Werner Mangold, then 56, concluded an employment contract with Rüdiger Helm, a lawyer.
