EFTA Court ruling on sex discrimination

This report relates to 1 case(s)

In case E-1/02 EFTA Surveillance Authority v the Kingdom of Norway, the EFTA Court ruled on 24 January 2003 that the practice of reserving professorships exclusively for women contravenes the principle of equal treatment as set out in the 1976 EU equal treatment Directive and EEA law.

The EFTA surveillance body ESA brought this case to the EFTA Court on the basis that the University of Oslo (UiO), with backing from the Norwegian government, had decided to reserve 20 professorships exclusively for women.
