In Loughran and Kelly v Northern Ireland Housing Executive [1998] IRLR 70, the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal holds that the engagement of a solicitor by his or her client under a contract to supply legal services comes within the definition of "employment" in the Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1976. That definition extends to employment under "a contract personally to execute any work or labour".
