In Newstead v Department of Transport and HM Treasury (EAT, 19.3.85) EOR2B, the European Court of Justice is asked to rule on whether requiring an unmarried male civil servant to make a pension contribution for a widow's pension where women civil servants are not required to make an equivalent contribution for a widower's pension offends against EEC discrimination law.
