In Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary v Sergeant A the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland rules that the Fair Employment Tribunal erred in finding that the RUC discriminated against a Catholic officer on grounds of religious belief when it suspended him following an allegation of driving while under the influence of alcohol. In concluding that the applicant had been treated less favourably than a comparable Protestant officer, the Fair Employment Tribunal incorrectly disregarded a number of relevant circumstances.
