Unfair dismissal remedies: Loss of earnings due to career change too remote

In Simrad Ltd v Scott [1997] IRLR 147, the EAT holds that an industrial tribunal erred in law in awarding an employee unfair dismissal compensation for future loss of earnings based upon her decision to change career and retrain as a nurse. That loss was too remote to be directly linked to the dismissal and properly attributable to action taken by the employer.
