Unfair dismissal remedies: Reductions of compensation for contributory conduct

In Optikinetics Ltd v Whooley 1 11.5.99 EAT 1257/97, the EAT emphasises that the statutory rules governing the reduction of an unfairly dismissed employee's compensation for contributory conduct are not the same in respect of the basic and compensatory awards. A tribunal has a wide discretion to reduce the basic award if it considers it just and equitable to do so.
