Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 come into force

Implementation date: 1 December 2010

The Regulations make amendments to rules governing the conduct of employment agencies and employment businesses. They prohibit the charging of upfront fees for work-finding services for photographic and fashion models and extend the cooling-off period in respect of upfront fees to 30 days for certain performers. The Regulations require agencies to inform new clients that they have a right to cancel an upfront fee within a certain period. The Regulations also reduce certain administrative burdens on agencies, including the requirement to perform identity checks, except for individuals working with vulnerable people, and the requirement to agree terms with the hirer. The Regulations can be viewed on the UK legislation website.
