Gender representation objective for boards of Scottish public authorities takes effect

Implementation date: To be confirmed

The Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018 requires the boards of specified public authorities in Scotland to act with a view to achieving the "gender representation objective" when making appointments to non-executive board positions. The gender representation objective is that 50% of non-executive members of the board are women. Boards must also take steps to encourage women to apply for such positions.

The Act received Royal Assent on 9 March 2018, but the implementation date for the duties under the Act are yet to be decided.
