Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 come into force
Implementation date: 29 December 1999
The Regulations make various amendments to the
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992. Obligations placed on
employers include: to make 'suitable and sufficient assessments' of risks to
health and safety and put in place appropriate 'protective and preventive
measures' to eliminate or minimise them; to make appropriate arrangement for
the effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of those
measures; to appoint 'competent persons' to assist in taking those measures; and
to provide employees with proper instruction, training and supervision and keep
them fully informed of the risks to their health and safety and how to avoid
them. The Regulations can be viewed on the OPSI website.
