National insurance holiday for new business in regions

Implementation date: 22 June 2010

New businesses outside Greater London, the South East and the Eastern regions of the UK are not required to pay national insurance contributions for the first 10 qualifying employees employed in the first year of business, until 5 September 2013. The National Insurance Contributions Act 2011, which implements this exemption, can be viewed UK legislation website.

The scheme has now closed. However, a retrospective claim for the NICs by qualifying businesses can be made by completing a NICs holiday application form.
