Pensions Act 2008 (Commencement No.13) Order 2012 and Pensions Act 2011 (Commencement No.3) Order 2012 come into force

Implementation date: 30 June 2012

The commencement orders implement various sections of the Pensions Act 2008 and the Pensions Act 2011, to give effect to the introduction of pensions auto-enrolment. The duty to auto-enrol eligible jobholders into a qualifying workplace pension scheme applies in stages, starting with the largest employers from 1 October 2012, although employers have the option of bringing their staging date forward to 1 July 2012. The safeguarding provisions requiring employers to protect individuals from unfair treatment in relation to pensions auto-enrolment apply from 30 June 2012.
