Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme comes into force in Scotland

Implementation date: 28 February 2011

The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 introduces the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme in Scotland. It is a membership scheme, managed by Disclosure Scotland, which replaces the disclosure arrangements for people who work with vulnerable groups and includes a list of individuals barred from working with vulnerable groups. The scheme will come into force in stages over four years. The Act and the commencement order bringing into force the main provisions of the Act can be viewed on the UK legislation website.
