Reporting requirement for large employers to publish anti-slavery and human trafficking statement introduced

Implementation date: 29 October 2015

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 aims to promote anti-slavery practices among businesses by modernising the law on slavery. The legislation requires commercial employers with an annual turnover of at least £36 million to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement for each financial year, setting out the steps they have taken to ensure that no slavery or human trafficking exists in their business or supply chains. The statement must be published on the company's website or, where the business does not have a website, it must provide a copy of the statement on request.

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 (Commencement No.3 and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2015 (SI 2015/1816) provide that for companies with a financial year ending before 31 March 2016 the requirement does not apply in respect of the financial year 2015/16.
