Social Security (State Pension and National Insurance Credits) Regulations 2009 come into force

Implementation date: 6 April 2010

The Regulations make amendments to various enactments following the equalisation of state pension provision for men and women introduced by the Pensions Act 1995 and reforms to state pensions introduced by the Pensions Act 2007. In particular, the Regulations specify the amount of basic state pension a person is entitled to if he or she does not satisfy the new contribution conditions for a state pension in full; provide for the gradual phasing-out of automatic national insurance credits for men who are within five years of state pension age; and provide for men and women to be treated equally with respect to the calculation and inheritance of graduated retirement benefit.
