Transparency of Lobbying, Non-party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Act 2014 comes into force

Implementation date: To be confirmed

The Act amends the statutory duty contained in section 24 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 on trade unions to compile and maintain a register of members and keep up to date, to include an additional requirement to provide an assurance to the Certification Officer that this duty has been met. Trade unions will be required to send an annual membership audit certificate (MAC) to the Certification Officer. Trade unions with a membership of more than 10,000 will need to appoint a qualified independent assurer. The Act also contains new greater investigatory and enforcement powers for the Certification Officer.
