ILEX Fellows can now advise on agreements

From 6 April 2004, thanks to the Compromise Agreements (Description of Person) Order 2004 (SI 2004/754)1, a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives employed by a solicitors' practice joins the list of those who qualify as independent advisers who must be named as such in any compromise agreement (whereby an individual may validly give up his or her right to claim under any of the employment protection or anti-discrimination laws).

The only other advisers so qualified are:

  • qualified lawyers;

  • officials, employees or members of a trade union; or

  • workers in advice centres.
