Minimum wage rises to £5.05ph

The national minimum wage (NMW) is set to rise by 4.1% in October 2005 to more than £5 an hour for the first time, after recommendations by the independent Low Pay Commission (LPC) were accepted by the government.

An announcement by prime minister Tony Blair on 25 February revealed that the current rate for adults aged 22 and over will increase from £4.85 to £5.05 an hour.
