Minister gets new powers over union recognition and mergers

On 31 December 2004, by virtue of the Employment Relations Act (Commencement No.2 and Transitional Provisions) Order 2004 (SI 2004/3342), ss.15, 18, 33, 34, 36, 39 and 54 of the Employment Relations Act 2004 ("the 2004 Act") came into force.

Section 15 gives the Secretary of State power to amend Schedule A1 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 ("TULR(C)A"), which contains the statutory procedure for recognition and derecognition of trade unions for the purpose of collective bargaining.
