Boots: retail pay rises of up to 3%

Spot rates for retail sales assistants and consultants at Boots have increased across all four UK pay zones by between 1% and 3%. The agreement, which covers approximately 50,000 employees, is effective for 12 months from 1 June 2010.
Ministry of Defence non-industrial staff: award worth 3.71% of paybill

The final stage of a three-year pay review was implemented for 47,500 non-industrial staff at the Ministry of Defence from 1 August 2010. The award consists of a restructuring of the pay scales and progression increases, and was worth 3.71% of paybill in total.

Fear of litigation hinders real health and safety priorities

Health and safety priorities are too often driven by a fear of litigation or a focus, particularly in the media, on issues that are trivial. This could mean that major ongoing health risks, such as exposures at work, remain poorly understood or managed, the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) has warned.
Building and Allied Trades JIC: 2% increase ends wage standstill

An agreement between Unite and the Federation of Master Builders increases the basic hourly rates of building craftworkers, employees and general operatives by 2% from 13 September 2010. However, as the effective date is three months later than the normal June anniversary, the review is worth 1.5% on an annualised basis.

Italy: Footwear industry agreement allows greater working time flexibility

A collective agreement signed in the Italian footwear industry in July 2010 provides for an average monthly pay increase of €105 over three years, greater working time flexibility, measures to promote company-level bargaining and increase productivity, and a rise in supplementary pension contributions.
EU: Commission consults on future of pensions

France: Employers without gender equality agreements to be fined

Draft legislation proposed in France in July 2010 would impose financial penalties on employers that do not have in place a collective agreement on gender equality, or an equivalent action plan, by 1 January 2012.
