Advise an employee on the qualifying criteria for paternity leave and pay in relation to an adopted child
Key points
To be eligible to take either one or two consecutive weeks' paternity leave, the employee must meet specified criteria in relation to their length of service with the employer, relationship with the child's adopter and responsibility for the child.
Additional criteria apply in respect of entitlement to statutory paternity pay.
An employee is not entitled to take paternity leave in respect of a child in certain specified circumstances.
