Employers are required to make a general assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees while at work. In some circumstances, this must include assessment of risks to the health and safety of a new or expectant mother.
A duty to carry out a further risk assessment arises in relation to individual employees where they give the employer notice in writing that they are pregnant.
The employer should consider all aspects of the work and record any risks that it identifies, including physical risks, risks from biological and chemical agents, and risks arising from working conditions.
