If an individual is ordered to make certain types of payment by a court, for example on conviction of a criminal offence, the court can order that sums be deducted from their wages if it believes that they will not otherwise make the payment. The employer is legally obliged to make the deduction in these circumstances.
Certain elements of an employee's pay are not attachable.
There are rules to determine which attachment order takes priority in the event that the employer is subject to more than one attachment order relating to the employee.
