Deal with an employee who has failed to return from annual leave
Key points
If an employee fails to return to work after a period of annual leave and has not made contact in advance, the employer should make efforts to contact the employee regarding the unauthorised absence by appropriate means.
On the employee's return to work, the employer should investigate the matter, and, if appropriate, initiate its disciplinary procedure.
The employer will not usually be obliged to pay the employee their normal pay for the unauthorised absence.
