Decide who should be included in a redundancy pool
Key points
To dismiss an employee for redundancy, an employer must adopt a fair procedure, including a fair selection process. As part of this process, the employer should form a redundancy pool from which to select employees for redundancy.
The employer should consider carefully whom to include in the pool, by looking at all the roles in the organisation that are affected by the redundancy.
The employer should include employees whose roles are the same or similar, even if they work on different shifts or in different sites or parts of the business, and take into account those whose work is interchangeable.
