The purpose of the disciplinary hearing is to establish the facts surrounding the suspected misconduct.
The employee should be allowed a full and fair opportunity to state their side of events, explain their conduct and state any mitigating factors.
Where the employee has taken advantage of the right to be accompanied at the hearing, legislation specifies what the companion is and is not permitted to do at the hearing.
Notes should be taken at the meeting so that there is a full written record of the meeting.
