Respond to an employee's formal notification of her pregnancy
- An employee who becomes pregnant must give her employer formal notification of her pregnancy by the end of the 15th week before her expected week of childbirth. This must include the fact that she is pregnant, her expected week of childbirth and the date when she intends her maternity leave to start (within the permissible parameters).
- The employee can be asked to produce evidence of her expected date of childbirth.
- The employer must respond within a set time frame informing the employee of the date when her additional maternity leave will end. A failure to do so could have significant consequences.
