    The Regulations implement Directive 2002/44/EC on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (vibration). They apply to UK ships wherever they may be and non-UK ships in UK waters. The Regulations impose duties on employers to protect workers who may be exposed to risk from exposure to vibration at work.

    In Walker v Wabco Automotive UK Ltd, the Court of Appeal overturns damages awarded to a woman for a work-related upper-limb disorder after it finds that her employers could not have been expected to anticipate that the use of vibrating tools could lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
