DARREN NEWMAN LLB (Hons) is an independent employment law trainer, presenting a wide range of conferences and courses. He is a tutor on the well-established Certificate in Employment Law run in association with Middlesex University and co-presents the regular three day course Essential Employment Law. He devises and presents in-house courses on all aspects of discrimination and employment law in both the public and private sectors. He writes regularly for IRS and XpertHR. His previous roles include Head of Employment law and Social Affairs at the Chemical Industries Association and Employment Law Consultant with the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Mentor service.
LESLEY MYLAND has 33 years experience in management, human resources and employment law. She has been established since 1983 as the principal of her own consultancy, specialising in advising line managers at all levels, on human resource and legal issues. She was appointed as a lay member of the Employment Tribunal in 1999 and currently carries out regular speaking, training, consultancy and advisory assignments for a large portfolio of clients from a variety of disciplines. Lesley is an award winning author, with two books and several hundred articles to her credit, and has contributed to XpertHR.
SUSAN IVES is a human resources and training consultant and before moving to a
full-time career as a consultant worked within the aviation industry for over 20 years.
Susan has significant experience of industrial and employee relations coupled with a
sound understanding of Customer Service requirements. Susan has been involved with
the preparation and presentation against claims at Employment Tribunals.
Susan is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
ALISON MCDOWELL is an independent HR and training consultant, specialising in employment law, leadership development and organisational development. Her client portfolio includes Standard Bank, BP Marine, Croner CCH, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Trinity Light House Services, Thames Valley University and the Teacher Training Agency. Before transitioning to a full time career as a freelance HR and training consultant she worked as a European HR Manager for Kodak Ltd.
DAVID PRATT BSc CEng MICE MAPM MaPS is Managing Director of Shear Management and a practising health and safety consultant. David is a Chartered Engineer with 20 years’ practical experience in the construction industry from which he has successfully built his own company, specialising in safety, health and environmental consultancy, risk/project management and training. He is author of the XpertHR reference manual chapter on health and safety.
ANNE O’DWYER is a management development expert providing high quality training, coaching and facilitation to individuals and organisations in the public and private sector. Focusing on interpersonal communication and management development, her portfolio includes training on all aspects of leadership, management, change and interpersonal skills. Trained in facilitation, counselling, training and consulting skills with BBC Management Training, she is confident working with people at all levels of an organisation. She produced an award-winning stress management video for the BBC and a BBC 1 series on confidence building, and has also trained extensively within the organisation.
ALAN WOODS BSc CEng MICE MaPS is a Senior Consultant in RSK ENSR H & S Ltd, and is a practising health, safety and environmental consultant. A chartered civil engineer with over twenty years experience, he is also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Association for Project Safety. Alan specialises in construction project management with particular emphasis on health, safety and environmental aspects, and the integration of safety and environmental management systems into associated business processes. Alan delivers a range of in-house training courses and workshops on all aspects of health and safety management to major companies throughout the UK.
LINDA SHELDON is an independent training and development consultant, specialising in performance management, competency profiling, management development and personal effectiveness. Her experience in training and development has been gained while working as a training manager and external training consultant for several large blue-chip companies within the retail, financial, manufacturing, IT and telecommunication sectors. She has been responsible for the project management, design and delivery of major training programmes from greenfield sites through to acquisition and merger.
