Automatic triggering of maternity leave due to pregnancy-related illness worked example 5

Angela is pregnant and her baby is due on 6 July 2015. She intends to start her maternity leave on 22 June 2015. On 18 May 2015, seven weeks before the due date, Angela phones her manager explaining that her doctor has advised her to take some time off work to rest as she has high blood pressure caused by her pregnancy.

Three weeks later, on 8 June 2015, Angela is still signed off work by her doctor for the same reason. She has provided medical certificates throughout her absence.
