Julie Steele is a freelance legal editor with a background in law and publishing. Her career has covered both the public and private sectors and has taken her to Australia, London and back to her native Scotland.
After graduating with a first-class degree in law, Julie gained a diploma in book editing and publishing while working in Australia before taking up an editorial role with a London publishing company. Moving back to Scotland in 2002, she undertook freelance editorial work and gained her diploma in legal practice. Julie completed her legal traineeship with a private law firm in Edinburgh, qualifying as a solicitor in 2006 and specialising in employment law. She then spent over three years working for the NHS Scotland Central Legal Office as an employment solicitor, providing advice and representation to her NHS Scotland Health Board clients, including in relation to the UK-wide equal pay litigation. Julie was also responsible for the monthly production and distribution of the CLO Employment newsletter to NHS Scotland human resources staff and managers.
