Ruth Wintersgill

Ruth Wintersgill is an associate in the regulatory and environment team at Womble Bond Dickinson, specialising in health and safety and environmental law. She advises private, commercial and institutional clients on all aspects of regulatory law including compliance, enforcement proceedings, and civil and criminal litigation.

Ruth regularly deals directly with regulators on behalf of clients in relation to critical-incident response and regulatory investigations. She also advises clients on interviews under caution and the full range of enforcement proceedings brought by the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency and other regulators.

Ruth provides clients with compliance advice focused on risk, regulation and reputation, on issues such as control of asbestos, energy performance of buildings, fire safety and contaminated land. She also advises on the health, safety and environmental issues associated with strategic projects such as the decommissioning and remediation of industrial sites and their subsequent redevelopment.

Ruth has experience advising vendors, purchasers and investors on the health, safety and environmental risks arising from corporate and real estate transactions, often in relation to the contaminated land regime.
