Consultation on ballot thresholds for taking industrial action in important public services
Close date: 9 September 2015
The Government consults on the requirement in the Trade Union Bill that industrial action in some sectors have the support of
at least 40% of all those entitled to vote (in addition to the requirement applying to all trade union ballots that 50% of union members entitled to vote participate). The 40% threshold will apply to fire, health, education, transport, border security and nuclear decommissioning. The consultation seeks evidence on the occupations and functions within those sectors that would be subject to the 40% threshold. The consultation also asks how ancillary staff, and those working in the private sector to deliver public services, should be treated.
