Consultation on caste discrimination
Close date: 18 September 2017
The Government consults on how the law can prohibit caste discrimination. It seeks views on whether or not it should amend the Equality Act 2010 to include "caste" in the definition of "race" to provide victims with statutory protection against this form of discrimination, or allow the law in this area to develop through the courts via case-law.
The deadline for responding to the consultation, which was due to close on 18 July 2017, has been extended to 18 September 2017 as a result of the general election on 8 June 2017.
