Consultation on reform of disability living allowance

Close date: 14 February 2011

The Government consults on replacing disability living allowance with a personal independence payment. The Government's objective is to simplify the process, so that it is easier for people to understand whether or not they will be eligible for the benefit and how to make a claim. The purpose of the benefit will continue to be helping people with the costs of their disability. There will be no automatic entitlement, except for people who are terminally ill. Each case will be considered individually, taking into account the impact of the condition on the person. The Government is also considering how it could help an individual manage his or her health condition.
